It’s that time of year again, when all things ‘art’ land up in Miami Beach. One of the art world’s most revered events, Art Basel brings with it luminaries, collectors and loyalists. Must-visit Galleries of Art Basel 2017
Mexico City’s Kurimanzutto will feature Haegue Yang’s paper collages at the Kabinett. Foxy Productions will showcase Sara Cwynar’s “Rose Gold” at Nova. The David Castillo Gallery brings a mixed-media showcase with photographs by Lyle Ashton Harris and Xaviera Simmons, plus live performances by Kalup Linzy. Emily Sundblad will be featured at Positions by Mexico City’s House of Gaga. And, New York’s Henrique Faria Fine Art gallery will bring visual artworks by Willys de Castro.
Must-see Satellite Fairs
Mushrooming from an overwhelming Art Basel scene is the Miami Art Week. The Fridge Art Fair encourages artists to create magnets this year. Design Miami shifts the spotlight to interior design with Louis Vuitton’s limited edition travel-inspired furniture and home accessories. SCOPE Miami Beach brings art curated by six-time NBA All Star, Amar’e Stoudemire. Aqua Art Miami has tattoo artist Thea Duskin inking live. The NADA Art Fair features young gallerists. Red Dot and sister fair Spectrum Miami will be gallery-only events, showcasing international works. And, Pulse will have a power-themed video and new media display.
What’s Art Basel without its parties? Catch Björk’s first Miami performance at III Points’ Concert Series in Wynwood. Innervisions collaborates with Life and Death to enthrall dance music fans at Virginia Key Beach Park. A three-night pop-up at 10AK will feature the who’s-who of the party scene. Lap up on rum at Bacardí and Dean Collection’s No Commission traveling show. Coyo Taco’s Rum and Bass
party will spillover onto the streets. And, Guy Gerber’s Rumors party will take over 1Hotel to keep party-goers bouncing all night.
